RTD Offers FREE Rides to Stockton’s Overnight Warming Zones During Extreme Cold Weather

Helping Our Community Stay Warm and Safe
As temperatures drop, San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) is stepping up to help those in need by providing free rides to designated warming zones in Stockton. When extreme cold weather hits, RTD ensures that everyone has access to a safe, warm place for the night.
When Are Free Rides Available?
RTD will activate free rides to warming zones under these conditions:
✅ Forecasted temperature of 35°F or lower for two or more consecutive days
✅ Forecasted temperature of 40°F or lower with a 50% or higher chance of rain
Where Are the Warming Zones?
RTD will provide free connections to the following designated warming zones:
📍 Arnold Rue Community Center
5758 Lorraine Ave., Stockton, CA 95210
Served by Routes 6, 520, and 43
📍 Stribley Community Center
1760 E. Sonora St., Stockton, CA 95205
Served by Routes 44, 525, and 580
How to Ride for Free
From 5 p.m. until the last trip of the day, and again from the first trip until 8 a.m. the next morning, passengers can ride Hopper, Local, Express, and Paratransit services to these warming zones at no cost. Simply inform the bus driver or reservationist that you’re traveling to a warming zone to receive a free ride.
Important Notes
Warming zones do not provide full shelter services such as meals or medical care. If you need additional support, including overnight shelter accommodations, please contact 2-1-1 or reach out to local shelters for availability and check-in details.
