STUFF THE BUS
Multi-Agency “Stuff the Bus” Food Drive Collects Almost 30,000 Pounds of Food!
(Stockton, CA) – San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) and its partners collected 29,850 pounds of food at the 15th Annual Stuff the Bus food drive November 22-24. This year RTD alone received 4,680 more pounds of food than in 2012.
RTD partnered with the local Boy Scouts “Scouting for Food” program to kick off the food drive this year. Then RTD led local transit agencies of Lodi Grapeline and Escalon eTrans in a countywide effort to hold simultaneous food drives in each city – using local staff, volunteers, and vehicles – to collect food for a nonprofit agency in each community: Emergency Food Bank of Stockton, Salvation Army of Lodi, and Escalon CARE.
Individually, each organization collected: 16,665 lbs. (RTD); 8,415 lbs. (Lodi Grapeline); 3,440 lbs. (Boy Scouts of America – Greater Yosemite Council); 1,330 lbs. (Escalon eTrans). Together, the food collected will provide 23,880 meals! RTD also partnered with Cumulus Broadcasting, The Record newspaper, Food 4 Less, and Big Boy Market. KWIN/KWNN (97.7/98.3) promoted the campaign with live on-site broadcasts, promotional appearances, and public service announcements. The Record promoted the food drive with event advertising. Food 4 Less stores in Lodi and on Lower Sacramento Road in Stockton, along with Big Boy market in Escalon, hosted the three-day event.
In addition to thanking campaign partners for their continued support, RTD would like to give special thanks to a few of the organizations and people who helped make this year’s food drive a success:
RTD is proud to serve our community through the annual Stuff the Bus food drive and to lead a group of local agencies that, by working together, are able to benefit so many local residents in need this holiday season.
