RTD Care Connection is a new pilot program that helps facilitate transportation from patients’ homes to their approved healthcare providers in Sacramento and the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.


With optional connection services* to the beginning of any of these routes for only $3.00, RTD provides you with additional options for reaching your healthcare provider destination.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?
To be eligible for this program, simply download the form, fill it out, and mail, email, fax or drop it off at the Customer Information Center at the Downtown Transit Center (DTC).
What if the facility I’m traveling to is not listed?
Since this is a pilot program, we will evaluate requests as they come in. Please indicate the facility you would like to travel to in your registration form and we will do our best to evaluate whether we can add this option.
Are there any special considerations I should keep in mind when booking my medical appointment?
The Sacramento service drop-off time will be between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and the pick-up time will be between 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please keep this in mind when booking your medical appointment and planning your day.

The StaRT Medivan service will depart from Tracy by 6:40 a.m. The guidelines for booking your medical appointment time will depend on the Bay Area facility you are going to. Please visit to view the suggested times or speak to a reservationist by calling 1-800-262-1516.

How do I book a trip?
For Sacramento service, you may call (209) 943-1111 and select Option 2 then Option 4 between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday to book your trip. Please book at least 72 hours in advance.

For Medivan Bay Area service, you may call 1-800-262-1516 between 6:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. from Monday to Friday to book your trip. Please book at least 72 hours in advance.

When should I call to book a trip?
Since seating is limited and trips are available on a first-come first-served basis, RTD recommends that you book your trip as soon as you book your medical appointment. You must book your trip at a minimum of 72 hours in advance.
How do I pay for my trip?
Customers have a number of options when paying for their trip:
  • Mobile Ticketing
  • Single-ride passes
  • Cash (exact change only) fare in-person to coach operator
Can I bring a Personal Care Attendant for this trip? How much would it cost for them?
One Personal Care Attendant is allowed. The cost is $3 per trip on the Medivan and free for all other services.
Can I take advantage of this program if I require special medical treatment during transportation?
Since this program does not employ emergency vehicles, we are not able to accommodate passengers requiring special medical treatments during transportation.
What should I do if I am unable to keep my appointment or no longer need the trip?
Please cancel your appointment as soon as you know you no longer need the trip so that someone else can use your seat. You can call (209) 943-1111 to cancel no later than 12:00 p.m. the business day before the scheduled trip. For example, if your trip is scheduled on a Monday, you must cancel your trip by noon on Friday.
